Donald Rowland



Donald Keith Rowland, 68, a seventeen year resident of Mayo , passed away peacefully at John Hopkins Hospital after treatment for leukemia. Born on January 15, 1948 in Annapolis to the late Ivyl Virginia and A. Martin Rowland, Don grew up in Loretta Heights. He graduated from Annapolis Senior High School in 1966 and worked at the Annapolis Filtration Plan and the Naval Institute. He married Kay Kunkle on June 21,1969 and that same year joined the Anne Arundel County Police Department. The majority of his career he remained in the patrol division stationed at central, northern, western and southern. Since his retirement in 1998, he enjoyed building three houses, wood working, antique cars, boating, summers in Ocean City, but mostly being the joy of his wife, daughter and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Kay of Mayo; his daughter, Stephanie Legacy and her fiancé Michael Davis; his grandchildren, Emma Michelle, Ben Rowland and Grace Kathryn Legacy; his brothers, Richard Rowland and his wife, Pat and Wayne Rowland and his wife, Barbara and by his nieces, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Stanley Martin Rowland. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Don's life from 4 to 8pm on Friday, July 22 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, July 23 at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, 4 Wallace Manor Rd., Edgewater, MD 21037.
