Joseph Collinson obituary, 1947-2022, Annapolis, MD

Joseph Connor Collinson, III, “Joey”, 75 of Lothian, Maryland passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 2nd. Joey was born and raised in Annapolis, MD. After graduating from Annapolis High School, he joined the US Coast Guard, and upon completion of his service he went to work for Cruise Along Boats, where he was introduced to ship building. In 1969 he married the love of his life, Margaret Ann Shepherd “Maggie” and together they restored her grandmother’s farmhouse and grew a family: Joseph Connor Collinson IV, “Jody”, and Ellen Collinson Neill (Jack) and later five beautiful grandchildren, Sydney Suzuki Collinson, Siena Rose Neill, Clare Carter Neill, Leola Margaret Collinson, and Elise Ann Neill.

Joey’s passions were his family, boats, fishing, old cars, camping, and fixing anything that needed fixing. He spent many years working in various roles for the federal government as an electrician and as a safety specialist at the USDA. He fulfilled a lifelong dream upon his retirement to build a boat, the Sydney Rose, named for his eldest granddaughters. He enjoyed planning cookouts and fish fry’s at the boat dock, going to car shows, working in his shop and on the farm, and enjoying a cold beer with his friends and family.

Joey was preceded in death by his parents Leola W. Carter and Joseph Connor Collinson Jr. and by his brother, Richard W. Collinson. He is survived by his wife, Maggie, of 53 years, his children, Jody and Ellen, his grandchildren, devoted sister-in-law Sandra Collinson, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear family and friends. A celebration of life will be planned for a later time. Donations may be made to: Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, 1010 Wrighton Road, Lothian, MD 20711 or to the Alzheimer’s Association
