Worked up to April 1, 2017 when I retired from the offshore submersibles industry after 41 years. My daughter, Flor, plays soccer at St. Mary's Honors college while studying public health. We purchased land and built a retirement home in Ciudad Vieja, Guatemala where we spend several months a year depending on Flor's college calendar.
Joined the Air Force after high school. Became a licensed Sport Diving Instructor (NAUI). Went on to a degree in electronic technologies after returning home to Annapolis in 1973. Lived on Prince George Street in Annapolis until 1986, then Cape St. Claire, Annapolis again and Edgewater before I finally settled in Calvert County in 2006.
Worked several jobs after USAF including Chesapeake Instruments until I settled into the submersibles industry with Alcoa Marine Corporation in 1976. Went on several high profile jobs including the Space Shuttle Challenger Salvage before becoming an independent contractor in 2000. Joined TE Subcom in 2006 under contract and was offered a permanent position. Since we adopted Flor in 2005, I took the opportunity to move to the shore based management side of the business as she grows up. Still did occasional stints offshore until retirement in 2017...
James (Jim)'s Latest Interactions
I am sorry to hear of the passing of Reidar and offer my condolences to his family. I remember him well although we did not interact much in school. We knew each other by name and sight and spoke on occasion. Seeing way to many of these posts and am reminded of our classes mortality. Hope all reading this are doing well...
Spending as much time as possible here in Guatemala, but still having to endure Maryland winters...
